Review: Pelican Point by Donna Kauffman

"Was it true? Did she have a person now? Someone in her life, her new life, who understood? Who would listen if there was something that needed to be said? She didn't even dare think it."

Pelican Point by Donna Kauffman

(Bachelors of Blueberry Cove #1)

Pelican Point (Bachelors of Blueberry Cove #1)Blueberry Cove, Maine, is as small-town as small towns get. More than a little quirky, it has sheltered generations of families. But there's always room for a new face…

Fixing things has always been Alex McFarland's greatest gift and keenest pleasure. But with her own life thoroughly broken, she's signed on to renovate the dilapidated Pelican Point lighthouse, hoping to reconnect with herself. The last thing she expects is to find herself falling in love--with the glorious coastline, with age-old secrets and welcome-home smiles…with rugged Logan McCrae, the man she just might be able to build new hopes on.

My Review -Rating 4 Stars
This is my first time reading one of Ms. Kauffman's books. The beginning didn't start out so well for me. She put in a lot of details on lighthouse restoring and while some might appreciate those details, it distracted me from the story. I pushed through that first chapter, though and I'm SO glad I did!

Logan and Alex's first meeting was classic. She faints into his arms and hears his "Sex-god" voice. They are both overcoming a tragic loss. They dance around each other, trying not to get involved but of course the inevitable happens, they have too much chemistry for it not to!

They end up helping each other to move on with their lives. It was such an emotional read. The story just takes you by the heart and squeezes until you've finished. The characters are well fleshed out and full of character. I love how it has a slightly mystical aspect in the antique shop owner. I can't wait until Brodie's story is released, it will be nice to see how it turns out for him. This was an exciting start to a new small town series.

I was given an ARC of this by the publisher Kensington Books and NetGalley for an honest review.

About Donna Kauffman

61869 USA Today bestselling author of the Cupcake Club Romance series (and brand new Bachelors of Blueberry Cove series!), DONNA KAUFFMAN has seen her books reviewed in venues ranging from Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal to Entertainment Weekly and Cosmopolitan. She lives just outside of DC in the lovely Virginia countryside, where she is presently trying to makeover her newly empty nest into something that doesn’t have to accommodate piles of sports equipment falling out of her coat closet (okay, out of every closet...and under every bed....), size 13 cleats and sweaty uniforms cluttering her foyer (and stairwell, and laundry room, and...), and a kitchen that should have come with a traffic light. And a pantry monitor. (Anyone with a clever idea on how to repurpose lacrosse sticks into matching reading lamps, she’s all ears!) When she’s not stripping paint, varnishing an old auction house find, or trying to avoid bodily injury with her latest power tool purchase, she loves to hear from readers! Review: Three Little Words By Susan Mallery (Fool's Gold 12)

"If you think of each wedding gown as a very delicate princess," Isabel said with a grin. "From a family with a lot of inbreeding. At any second, there could be disaster. We're here to keep that from happening"
Can first love turn into the real deal? Anything can happen in a sizzling new Fool's Gold story from New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery.

Isabel Beebe thinks she's cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she'll pursue her real dreams. At least, that's the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again.....

Seeing Isabel all grown-up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can't take his eyes--or his lips--off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool's Gold forever--if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same.

My Review

So Isobel fell in love with Ford at 14. One PROBLEM! He's her sister's fiancee! When tragedy happens and Ford leaves Fool's Gold, Isobel writes him while he's away in the military. She writes him until she meets "the one" and then stops, never knowing if Ford has ever even received her letters.

14 years pass by and Ford returns to Fool's Gold. His mother is holding applications to find him and his brother a wife. Isobel is not in competition as she is leaving at the end of the summer to go to NYC to start her fashion career. It's a slow build up with love between these two! They pretend to date to keep Ford's mother at bay, become friends and then fall in love. They have their stumbling blocks though.

I swear, I could move to Fool's Gold! The way Susan Mallery creates this small town, life seems so sweet and friendly! The whole town comes together in times of crises' and I love to watch the girls hang out at Jo's Bar!

Review: The Bridesmaid by Julia London

“In there is the ugliest, most hideous, god-awful poufy piece of peach taffeta in the history of mankind.”

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles! Oh My!

Julia London does it again! Perfectly lovable short story on how Joe and Kate survive a freak storm, transportation strike, only one car rental left and a wedding to get to!  The sparks fly in this story! The conversations between the couple are funny and engaging! The chemistry compelling!

We should all be lucky to have such encounters in a busy airport! Travelers who have ever been stuck in an airport will LOVE this story!

Thank you to Julia London and NetGalley for the ARC!
